Emma, Claire's twin sister, particularly had a bad experience and after buying many driving lessons from another driving school she was told that she needed to learn in an automatic because she had no co-ordination. This of cause was nonsense and after contacting LDC we helped her to pass the test in a manual car despite the damage that had been done to her self confidence. And the test is basically a series of turns, some rights, and some lefts, and then two maneuvers, a broken U-turn, and parallel parking. So for the right turn, where we'll start, the basic idea for the right turn is that you're going to have your car over to the right side of the lane that you're on and you're going to make sure you make the turn into the right lane of the street that you're going onto. Unlike traditional instruction LDC heavily promotes student centred learning. This involves the student being encouraged to take more responsibility for their own development by using the LD System materials before and after each lesson and by using discovery learning with self determination and reflection rather than being told what to do by the instructor. In particular talk through instruction, prompted practice and long winded explanations are avoided, if at all possible - instead encouraging the student to work it out for themselves. This driving lesson video (https://www.learnerdriving.com) from LDC - Learner Driving Centre shows the first practical driving lesson of Claire. Claire has two sisters who found learning to drive a nightmare with other driving schools. This is why we were so interested in training Claire, her twin, to show it need not be so difficult. Because of this Bob realises Claire may believe it is going to be really difficult for her to learn to drive because of what happened to her twin sister Emma. The provisional plan for today's lesson was to cover the Getting Moving lesson from the LDC driving skills programme. Before this lesson Claire decides to do some preparation for the lesson using the LDC driving skills Workbook but not the DVD as she has no PC/DVD player at home. Bob gave her the link to the videos on YouTube so she could watch them before the next lesson on her phone! Claire has also started to do her Theory Test preparation using a non-LDC phone App. Claire didn't realise LDC do Theory Test software (i.e. Apps) for phones as well as for PCs. Indeed LDC is the only software product where you can pass results between the PC and a mobile device. Too many driving instructors focus too much attention on telling their pupils what to do, what to think and criticizing ever little fault they make! This approach only fosters dependency, doubt and blind obedience, such that once the test is passed they do all the things they were told not to do. The LDC approach is designed to foster self-reliance, confidence and responsibility resulting in safer drivers who learn to drive far more quickly. Unlike traditional instruction LDC heavily promotes student centred learning rather than the instructor centred fault orientated learning approach offered by most other driving schools. This involves the student being encouraged to take more responsibility for their own development by using the LD System materials before and after each lesson and by using discovery learning with self determination and reflection; rather than being continually criticized and told what to do by the instructor. In particular talk through instruction, prompted practice and long winded explanations are avoided, if at all possible - instead encouraging the student to work it out for themselves. If you want to see this approach in practice view Bobby-Jo's, Claire's or Nikki's lessons with Bob. This series of videos shows Bob using the new features which will be incorporated into LDCs new workbook for 2014 as he helps Nikki and Claire learn to drive. These new features are contained in the A4 ring bound reflective lesson diary which Nikki and Claire are completing between lessons. The idea behind the LD System is that you watch the video, do a quiz in the workbook and then put the lesson into practice. The workbook also contains a set of activities and targets for each practical lesson along with a reflective diary to help you consolidate your learning, explore your progress and plan what you want to do next. Fear basically comes from the unknown, and it's very common in pretty much anybody who drives a car for the first time. So how do we take some of that fear out of driving? One way might be to go to a driving school. The first time you drive a car be in a situation where someone is sitting next to you with the ability to stop the car just in case something goes wrong. Driving school cars are equipped with dual brakes, so the instructor can stop you just in case anything goes wrong. One way to overcome the fear exactly would be to do that. The second way might be, if you're not going to go to a driving school, the first time you drive a car you might want to be off the road. Maybe you want to be in a parking lot or a situation like that, so that you can become familiar with the accelerator and the brake and getting the understanding of the feel of the vehicle without being on the roadway in a situation where you might do damage to the vehicle and you have other things around you which make driving more hazardous. The more you drive, the better you're going to get at it, and that fear is going to start to go away. You'll see that the second time in the car, the third time and the fourth time, you'll feel much calmer. A lot of those nerves will go away, because you'll understand that this isn't so bad. I can control the car. Then the fear will go away from you, and the more you drive, the better you will get t it. A lot of that fear will leave you, and then you'll be able to accomplish some great things in learning how to drive a car safely.

You'll have to sign a declaration and then go outside to read a number plate from around 20.5 metres. After that it's onto the 'show me, tell me' questions. Once completed and you've made yourself comfortable in the car then the drive will begin. This video is not showing a real driving test. This is a mock test and NOT a real driving test. Although Claire made good progress on her first lesson she obviously expected not to do so well. This is Claire's second practical driving lesson with Bob. Bob hoped he had helped Claire to realise she really did make good progress on the last lesson. Claires negative expectations come from the experiences of her two sisters who had a nightmare learning to drive with other driving schools. Emma, Claire's twin sister, particularly had a bad experience and after buying many driving lessons from another driving school she was told that she needed to learn in an automatic because she had no co-ordination. This of cause was nonsense and after contacting LDC we helped Emma to pass the test in a manual car despite the damage that had been done to her self confidence. This is why we were so interested in training Claire, we were keen to show her that what happened to her twin sister need not happen to her. Because of the problem Emma had with gears Claire naturally assumes this will be difficult but as she will see with our approach this need not be such a problem. This series of videos shows Bob using the new LD System workbook as he helps Nikki and Claire learn to drive. The idea behind the LD System is that you watch the video, do a quiz in the workbook and then put the lesson into practice. The workbook also contains a set of activities and targets for each practical lesson along with a reflective diary to help you consolidate your learning, explore your progress and plan what you want to do next. Watch more How to Drive videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500665-How-to-Pass-Your-Driving-Road-Test-Driving-Lessons So what I want to do today is give you a good understanding of what to expect on a driver's road test, and give you some tips on how to pass the test. Pretty much no guesswork in a right turn. It's always the same, from right to right at all times. Right lane to right lane. The left turn is a lot trickier. And the left turn is the one that may get you on that road test. And the reason for the left turn being trickier is because you've got some decisions to make on the left. Do I make the turn into this lane or that lane? That will be determined whether or not that's a one-way or a two-way street. So you're ability to recognize that will be crucial on your road test. What are some of the ways you can tell? A one-way street typically will have a sign on either corner. If you see a sign it's usually a one-way. It'll have an arrow on it. Therefore, the rule of thumb on the turns being closest to the available lane, if you see the one-way sign, the turn has to go into the left lane. If the street doesn't have a sign and it has a line down the middle, you can tell by the color of the line whether or not it's a one-way or a two-way. A white line would indicate one-way street. Again, you'll make your turn onto the left side. A yellow line indicates a two-way street, which means that you've got to make the turn out to the right side of the street. The most difficult one will be the street that doesn't have the line on it. The way you can tell on a street like that, look for the direction of the parked cars. If they're parked in opposite directions, that's going to indicate a two-way street. Remember your rule of thumb, you choose the closest available lane, and you're going to swing out to the right. This is the turn that typically tricks people the most on the road test. Your two maneuvers are a parking, and a broken U-turn. Broken U-turn real simple, you just pull over against the curb on the right, put your indicator on. The whole idea is to take your car from the right side here, bring it across to the other side, then you're going to back up, and then you're going to go back the same way you came on that roadway. My tip for this is when you're doing the backing part, you don't want to back up all the way to the other curb, because usually when you do that you come out on the wrong side of the street. The other maneuver is the parallel parking. Don't worry so much about it. You get a big space to park, and as long as you look back and go back slowly, it shouldn't be a problem for you. And that's it. That's your road test. Usually six turns, three rights, three lefts, a park, a broken U-turn, and it's over in about 10 minutes. Good Luck.
